Math Center Ideas:
There are a lot of great center ideas in the math textbook. I have adapted a lot of them and the kids really seem to love them! I have listed them in order of our units of study. Simply scroll down to see more. (I am working on putting anchors in to make this easier.) If you would like to add an idea please put it in the appropriate chapter. Don't forget to write your first name after each entry so that we know who to contact if we have questions.

General Math Centers: Skill: inside/outside, shapes Materials: masking tape, bean bags Use masking tape to make shapes on the floor.Have students chose and identify a shape that they are going to aim at.They can then toss the beanbag and tell whether they got the beanbag inside or outside of the shape. For further challenge ask students whether the beanbag is above or below, left or right. Extension: Have each student in the group throw multiple beanbags and graph how many were inside and how many were outside. Ruthie
Counting books:Students will look through counting books and try to count the objects on each page. Ruthie
Chapter 1 - Sorting and Classifying:
Chapter 2 Patterns and Movement: Patterns: Students can use connecting cubes or other small objects to make patterns. Parents can help by starting a pattern and asking students to continue it. Also, students can use the unifix pattern books to create other patterns. Ruthie Chapter 3 Matching and Counting:

Chapter 9 Measurement: Measuring: This math station is used when we are doing our unit on measurement. Students will use connecting cubes to measure various objects around the room. They will then count the number of cubes. Students may be asked to record their measurements on a clipboard by drawing a picture of the object and writing the number next to it. Students will start with small objects like tissue boxes and move up to larger objects. The last time we do this station I let students work together to measure each other. Ruthie
